REMOVING BUILDING RESIDUE OFF GLASS

During any building program, all glass should be covered and protected from paint, mortar, silicon and other products that are not water soluble. It is recommended by the manufacturers that no “blade ”,“ scraper” or similar tool be applied to the glass surface.

Manufacturers recommend no harsh cleaners or alkaline materials be used. Solvents including paint stripper and acids are usually ineffective and may cause further damage. If the glass has not been protected, then scraping it, using metal blades is the only method that will remove residues. Scraping annealed or float glass usually results in minimal scratching. Head for Heights usually achieves excellent results. Mortar and concrete must never be allowed to dry on glass as its removal will cause scratching.

Cleaning toughened (tempered) glass. An Australian Standards Mark is visible in the corner of this glass and it means the surface is considerably softer than normal “float” glass. Extra special care should be taken when cleaning the surface opposite the Australian Standards Mark. All scraping of toughened is subject to scratching. Some brands are more prone to scratching than others.

If the glass requires scraping because it has not been protected, then, Head for Heights Window Cleaning will not be held responsible for any subsequent scratching when glass is not protected but our years of experience means that we know how to keep this to minimum.
